News Release - Construction to cause delays travelling in lower Kings Canyon to Cedar Grove in 2020

DUNLAP, Calif., June 4, 2020 –Forest and Park officials are working with Caltrans to replace bridge rails on the South Fork Kings River Bridge along Highway 180 near Boyden Cave in Kings Canyon. The bridge is located in Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest. This route provides the only road access to Cedar Grove, located in Kings Canyon National Park. Visitors can expect delays of up to 15 minutes when travelling this route through the Forest or entering/leaving Cedar Grove, longer delays are possible during periods of heavy traffic.


Boyden Caverns is schedule to open later this year. Once open, visitors may have difficulty getting into and out of their parking area, reservations are recommended.


Convict Flat Campground will have partial closures during construction from May through August 2020 due to housing of heavy equipment and personnel in this remote location. Please plan accordingly when travelling through the construction area. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
